My Beautiful Failure by Janet Ruth YoungMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received My Beautiful Failure through the First Reads program on goodreads.com
The novel is about Billy who is a sophmore in high school. He volunteers a couple of nights a week at Listeners which is a suicide hotline. Through Listeners he meets and "Incoming" named Jenney. Jenneys life is spiraling out of control and more frequent. While this is going on Billy is also dealing with problems of his own that involve his depressed father. During Jenneys phone calls Billy starts falling in love with a girl he has never met.
I liked the characters in the book, especially Billys friend Gordon. I liked the story and the idea behind the story. However I would have loved to have read more of the conversations between Jenney and Billy because I feel like so much was left out of them. I like the flashbacks to last year when Billys father had his breakdown because it gave insight into who Billy is and why he acts the way he does.
I enjoyed reading this fast paced novel and plan on reading more by this author.
